Ein Movie der ehemaligen Literaturkursschüler Tom Dombrowsky, Nico Grawunder und Christian Kellers (Q2) erhielt den ersten Preis beim öffentlich ausgeschriebenen Kunstwettbewerb „Wenn ich Zauberkräfte hätte …”. Das Helmholtz-Gymnasium bietet den Schülerinnen und Schülern eine Bandbreite an AGs.
Nähere Infomationen dazu gibt es bei den Kontaktpersonen der einzelnen Schulen. Seit Jahren sind wir neben namhaften Unternehmen und Fachhochschulen erfolgreiche Aussteller am Düsseldorfer Tag der Technik. Helmholtz-Gymnasiums haben die Möglichkeit in der Oberstufe das Fach Sport auf Leistungskursniveau zu belegen.
Im Freizeitbereich besteht außerdem die Möglichkeit an der AG Bücherclub oder den Wettbewerben “Be sensible do not start”, dem “Rhetorikwettbewerb” oder dem “Wettbewerb der Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung” teilzunehmen. Hauptfach- oder Leistungskurs in Kunst wird nicht angeboten. Helmholtz-Gymnasium die AGs Kunst und Origami sowie die Möglichkeit der Teilnahme an einem Street-Art Kunstprojekt.
Experimentalfilme aus den Literaturkursen der Oberstufe qualifizieren sich regelmäßig für die Auswahlliste des Schülerfilmfestivals NRW[12][13][14][15]. Die Ausbildung kann sowohl als Wahlpflichtfach als auch als außerunterrichtliche AG durchgeführt werden. Die Schüler sind nach Abschluss des 6–12 monatigen Kurses in der Lage, bei Verletzungen und Spontanerkrankungen im Schul- und Privatkreis helfen. 2010 feierte die Schule ihr hundertjähriges Bestehen[5]. Zum wiederholten Mal hat das in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Jugendparlament veranstaltete Velocity Debating in der Aula des HGH stattgefunden.
Und nicht nur das – die vier Spieler haben sogar alle ihre Partien gewonnen. Wir gratulieren ihr herzlich zu ihrem bisherigen Erfolg und drücken ihr für den Kreisentscheid in Heiligenhaus fest die Daumen. Wir haben nun etwas mehr Gewissheit hinsichtlich der Anmeldungen für das kommende Schuljahr und der Dinge, die wir in diesem Kontext dürfen und eben auch nicht dürfen. Im November haben wir mit viel Energie einen Corona-tauglichen Tag der offenen Tür für Sie und Ihre Kinder konzipiert, den viele von Ihnen auch besuchen wollten. Gehofft hatten wir bis zuletzt, dass wir diesen im Januar nachholen können. Leider dürfen wir diesen aus verständlichen Gründen nun auch nicht im Januar durchführen – diese Nachricht erreichte uns in der letzten Woche.
Für die Abiturienten beginnen daher jetzt lernintensive Wochen. Nach den Ferien stehen noch mehrere Abivorbereitungstage an, an denen der Stoff wiederholt und Prüfungen simuliert werden. Trocken kommt Ludwig heute nicht in die Schule. Aber das macht dem Sechstklässler des Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Gymnasiums überhaupt nichts aus. Er ist additional früh zur Schule gefahren, um möglichst viel vom letzten Schultag der Abiturienten mitzuerleben.
Durch die Mitwirkung der Chöre beider Schulen wurde die Kooperation auf besonders beeindruckende Weise in in der Friedenskirche hörbar. Etwa 50 Mitglieder treffen sich montags um 18.15 Uhr in der Musikschule zur Probe. Seit Februar 2014 existiert das Junge Sinfonieorchester Hilden als Kooperationsprojekt zwischen der Musikschule Hilden, dem Dietrich-Bonhoeffer-Gymnasium Hilden und dem Helmholtz-Gymnasium. Nach der ersten Unterrichtsstunde am Freitag laufen die Abiturienten durch die Schule und holen die restlichen Schülerinnen und Schüler aus den Klassen.
Die Grundmauern stehen bereits, nun werden Holzelemente eingebaut, die später die Klassen und anderen Räume abtrennen. Bis Anfang November sollen alle Wände stehen, auch die im Obergeschoss, das momentan noch nicht existiert. Danach wird die Glasfassade innerhalb von drei bis vier Wochen eingebaut. Dienstags und freitags bieten Musikschule, Sportvereine und andere außerschulische Kooperationspartner Arbeitsgemeinschaften an.
