Lamine Yamal a 16 year old boy has become the youngest scorer in Euro‘s history!
Professional footballer from Catalonia, Spain, who plays right wing for both the Spanish national team and La Liga team Barcelona. At the age of sixteen, he became the youngest goal scorer in history when he equalized for Spain against France in the twenty-first minute. At the tender age of sixteen years and 362 days, Yamal shattered the record. The previous record was held by Johan Vonlathen of Switzerland, who scored a goal against France in 2004 at the age of eighteen years and 141 days.
Glimpse of his life
On July 13, 2007, Lamine Yamal was born in Esplugues de Llobregat, in the Catalan region of Spain’s Barcelona metropolitan area. His parents separated when Lamine was three, although both remained present through his childhood. Lamine began playing football at the local team La Torreta at the age of four, having relocated to Granollers from Mataró about this time with his mother.
When Lamine was six years old, FC Barcelona scouted him and invited him to training sessions at La Masia, where he eventually signed a contract with the team. They allowed Lamine to train at the academy in Barcelona. The academy quickly regarded Lamine as one of its most promising students.
In the 83rd minute of a 4–0 La Liga victory over Real Betis, Lamine made his first team debut on April 29, 2023, taking Gavi’s place. In that game, he registered a shot on target against former Barcelona goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, making him the fifth youngest player in La Liga history at 15 years, 9 months.
Coach Luis de la Fuente called up Lamine for his debut senior international team on September 1, 2023, at the age of 16 years and 50 days, for the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers versus Georgia and Cyprus.
He was chosen to be part of the 26-person team for the competition on June 7, 2024. He defied Poland’s previous record by becoming the youngest player to play in the competition on June 15th, when he made his debut in the European Championship against Croatia he was 16 years and 338 days old at the time.
Playing Style
Lamine is a left-footed forward who excels at dribbling, passing, and generating opportunities. He can play as a center-forward, an offensive midfielder, or a winger, especially on the right flank.
Although he can curve the ball to the post, as a right-winger, he prefers to play most of the time with his left foot. His quick feet and quickness are other well-known attributes.
Like many other La Masia products before him, Lamine’s technical profile led to comparisons with former Barcelona footballer Lionel Messi. Also mentioned by Lamine as having had a significant impact on his own playing style is former Barcelona player Neymar.
