Pitch Conditions & Expectations
Eden Gardens had two pitches a day before. However, KKR chose to play on the driest one. The decision is not in hands of teams, however, KKR has raised their grievance, and had it their way on the surface they want to play at their Home ground. This pitch provided much seam throughout the match. An added advantage to the pacers overall. A low scoring chase was expected. But, what match doesn’t come with its own twists & turns.
KKR’s Batting, SRH struggles
SRH, won the toss, challenging KKR to bat, proving deadly. SRH’s pacers didn’t gain that momentum, added KKR’s middle order really got them in trouble. Captain Ajinkya Rahane scored 38 Runs with a Strike Rate of 140. Simultaneously, Partnering with Angkrish Raghuvanshi, scoring a partnership of 81 runs off 51 balls. Also, Raghuvanshi, scored 50 Runs off 32 Balls with a Strike Rate of 156.25. However, the break of the first partnership played well for SRH, getting another wicket of Angkrish, just after 10 Balls. Afterwards Venkatesh Iyer scored 60 off 29 balls, with 7 fours & 3 sixes, a Strike Rate of 206.90. Rinku Singh scored 32 off just 17 balls at last.
An explosive Game play by KKR Bowlers pacers
KKR pacers dismissed SRH’s openers early in the match. Afterwards, the SRH Middle Order could not built the momentum they needed in the match. However, a ray of hope was there for SRH with Kamindu Mendis. Shortly, Narine dismissed Kamindu Mendis. Similarly, Moeen Ali caught out Heinrich Klaasen, bowled by Vaibhav Arora. KKR pacers had an huge advantage with the familiarity with home ground, followed by the driest pitch available in the ground. Vaibhav Arora & Varun Chakaravarthy, both took 3 wickets, while, Varun maintained an economy of 5.50 as well. Andre Russell took 2 wickets with an economy of 7.50 as well, taking the last wickets as well.
Conclusion
KKR won the match by 80 runs setting a new record for the biggest defeat margins. This was not the only record broken, however. Now, KKR has most consecutive wins at 5 matches as well. Also 3 20+ wins against a team. Vaibhav Arora grabbed the Player of The Match for the 3-wickets he took with a low economy of 5.50.
